A pneumatic gripper is a specific type of pneumatic cylinders which is made to grip objects in the production process. The gripper can be part of a larger system with cobots and rails, where objects can change locations during production.

Operation of pneumatic gripper

As described in the intro, the pneumatic gripper works on air pressure. This ensures that the grip of this type of gripper is firmer compared to an electric grippers. Nowadays it is possible to have heavy objects picked up by an air pressure gripper. There are different variants on the market. These differ from each other in size and in the way they grip. There are grippers with fingers and grippers with jaws.

Additionally, there are options for grippers that can grab something from an angle, or work from a vertical line. Three-point grippers are also an option for round objects to grab the product from the inside or outside. It depends on the purpose to determine which variant best suits your production process.

What is always important is the snapshot of the gripper. This is to ensure a long lifespan for heavy objects or when they are difficult to remove or put away. For example, you want a pneumatic gripper without any room on the fingers.

Industries where grippers are used

Since there are many different types of grippers, you will find grippers in many industries. The variants that can lift heavy loads are suitable for the automotive and robotics industries, for example. The finer grippers can work in detail and are therefore used in the packaging, semiconductor, medical and food industries, among others.
